“Icy Cold Love” was my first song written solo.
I had suffered from heartache and drew from my Western roots while composing this song. I guess one could say that rather than writing an accurate rendition of real life experience in my current era, I was caught up in the moment of composing this particular song involving a what if scenario.
What if I had been born back in the early 1800′s? What would have been my reaction to a broken heart? I found myself composing the melody and lyrics from a drifting outlaws perspective who once again, found himself all alone.
Life was…according to history, quite harsh in the famous western era. I imagined myself back then and guessed the outcome. I suppose while writing this song, I traveled back in time! I felt the icy cold knifing it’s way into my bones as I plodded along the empty outlaws trail. I viscously wiped away the embarrassing tears birthed by the depth of heartache that was now griping my soul. Gone was all hope of having the good life, of having a beautiful woman to share life’s drama. Down…down I plunged into bitterness and anger as I listened to the harsh winter wind howling with its foreboding voice. All along, knowing the angry mob from town who represented the law were not very far behind me and most likely any moment might catch me in my vulnerable condition.
Bitterly I wiped away more tears… “Icy Cold Love” is a song birthed from the spirit of the west.
